Iran Nuke Deal: Easy Come, Easy Go.

obama1I remember several people on the left taking me to task a couple of years ago for being critical of the Iranian nuclear deal brokered by former President Barack Obama. They said (paraphrasing) “you would have been opposed to any agreement no matter what.”

They were right. That’s the way it works when you do not *trust* the other side. They could have promised to beat their axes into plowshares, cure the common cold, and find a reliable bullpen for my Detroit Tigers and I *still* would have criticized the deal. Why?

I. Do. Not. Trust. Them. How can you possibly have an effective agreement with someone you do not trust? What possible reason can you give me for trusting Iran on this…or anything else?

It became a moot point today when President Donald Trump announced that the US was withdrawing from the accord.  The best part of jettisoning the deal is not getting rid of a useless agreement. It’s watching the reaction of its smug architects as their Magnum Opus disintegrates before their very eyes.

Also, it probably would have been a good idea for the previous President to have had the deal ratified by the Senate.  That would have made it harder for the current President to withdraw from it.

I guess this means the Pen and Phone wing of the Barack Obama Presidential Library is being redesigned.  Ditto the Paris Accord, Obamacare, and stifling EPA regulations.

As it stands now the only lasting legacies of his Presidency will be crippling debt, and the election of Donald Trump.

This is a night to enjoy beer.
