“Oh, the Racists You’ll See!”

Welcome to the Age of Perpetual Wokeness.

seussSeptember 6 was National Read A Book Day, and to celebrate, First Lady Melania Trump participated in an initiative to send books to 50 schools in the nation—one from each state.  The gifts were selected works by Dr. Seuss; including the iconic “Green Eggs and Ham” and “Oh, the Places You’ll Go.”  One librarian, though, saw an opportunity to cast herself as the latest Social Justice Warrior Superstar.

lizzieIn an unnecessarily condescending letter, librarian Liz Phipps Soeiro (pictured, left) at Cambridgeport Elementary School in Cambridge-Massachusetts pointed out that there were many other schools who needed the books more than they did.  Now if she had stopped there, her point would have been valid and hopefully the books could have gone to where they are needed the most.  But no.  That cannot happen in today’s “Everything is Political” world.

“Why not go out of your way to gift books to underfunded and underprivileged communities that continue to be marginalized and maligned by policies put in place by Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos? … [M]y school doesn’t have a NEED for these books.”

Oh but it gets better.  This ungrateful adult baby then attacked Dr. Suess books in general.  In her petulant letter, Soeiro opined, “Dr. Seuss is a bit of a cliché, a tired and worn ambassador for children’s literature.”

OK.  That’s formidably silly.  Kids aren’t aware of clichés.  They have not developed that discernment ability.  They just want to be entertained as they learn to read…and few did it better than Theodore Geisel (aka Dr. Seuss.)

But no.  It doesn’t stop there.  Oh Lord no.  You see, in this modern-day world where we imagine enemies and microaggressions lurking behind every nook and cranny of the universe; this alleged adult with a severe lack of coping skills had to kick it up a notch.

“Dr. Seuss’s illustrations are steeped in racist propaganda, caricatures, and harmful stereotypes. Open one of his books (If I Ran a Zoo or And to Think That I Saw It On Mulberry Street, for example), and you’ll see the racist mockery in his art.”

So there you go.  Two weeks ago, it was Confederate Generals who were racist.  Earlier this week, anyone who didn’t kneel for the National Anthem was racist.  Now Dr.-Flipping-Seuss is racist.

When Donald J. Trump wins re-election in 2020 despite all of his obvious shortcomings, I want the delicate little Faberge Eggs to realize why it happened.  Singular incidents like this are not enough…but collectively, they are indicative of a once-needed political movement that has absolutely lost its fricking mind.

And yes, I’ll get a little personal with Mrs. Soeiro.  A simple “no thanks” was not enough for you, was it?  No.  You had to put on your Grievance Superhero Cape and give the First Lady a lecture.  You even had the temerity to suggest that she read more about the experience of immigrants in America—deftly ignoring that Melania Trump IS an immigrant.

You look like you came right out of central casting.  I’m thinking your house smells like an odoriferous combination of cat food, T.J. Swann, Daddy issues and relational failure.  And, as this picture of you from Dr. Seuss Day two years ago demonstrates, you are hereby found GUILTY of promoting racist propaganda in our public schools and must be excommunicated.
